About Joe Licata

Joe Licata has spent more than 20 years in medical sales. He started on the front line as a rep at Boston Scientific and Baxter Healthcare, carried trays into the operating room, sat through ride-alongs with surgeons at 6 AM, and closed hospital contracts in a market where every account has three competitors fighting for the same wallet. He has sold medical devices, pharmaceuticals, capital equipment, and diagnostics. He has been the new hire on a team and the manager hiring new reps. He has seen what works from both sides of the desk.

After two decades inside the industry, Joe founded RepPath. The reason was simple. The medical sales job market is flooded with qualified candidates who cannot get a callback. Hiring managers filter hard. Recruiters bury resumes. The cost of breaking in without a coach is months of unreturned applications and a slow drift into a career people did not want. Joe built RepPath to shortcut that process. He works with every member until they have an offer. No cap. No time limit. No "you were not ready" escape hatch.

Joe is a graduate of Villanova University with a Bachelor of Science in Biology. He lives on the East Coast, runs twice-weekly live coaching calls for the RepPath community every Tuesday and Thursday at 3 PM EST, and personally reviews every resume and mock interview inside the program. His work has placed 500+ clients at companies including Medtronic, Stryker, Johnson and Johnson, Abbott, Boston Scientific, Baxter, Zimmer Biomet, Intuitive Surgical, Arthrex, and 50+ others. Median placed salary is $147,000. Average time from enrollment to signed offer is 9 to 10 weeks.

Specialties

Medical Device Sales

Medical device is the largest specialty Joe coaches into. The profile covers orthopedic (joints, spine, trauma, sports medicine, extremities), cardiovascular, capital equipment, neuromodulation, and general surgery. Joe has placed reps at Stryker, Medtronic, Johnson and Johnson MedTech, Zimmer Biomet, Boston Scientific, Abbott, Smith and Nephew, Globus Medical, and Arthrex. He drills clinical terminology, OR etiquette, implant knowledge, and ride-along behavior with every medical device candidate.

Pharmaceutical Sales

Pharma sales is a distinct lane with a different interview process, different target accounts, and different daily rhythm. Joe coaches candidates targeting primary care, specialty pharma, oncology, rare disease, and vaccines. He knows the pharma rep model, the Veeva and Salesforce workflows, sample accountability, and the compliance environment that pharma hiring managers drill on.

Capital Equipment Sales

Capital equipment is one of the highest-comp lanes in medical sales. Deal cycles are 9 to 18 months. Deal sizes start at $100,000 and run into the millions. Joe coaches candidates on the capital sales process, stakeholder mapping, committee-selling, and the long-cycle patience that capital roles require.

Diagnostic Sales

Diagnostic sales covers lab diagnostics, molecular, pathology, and point-of-care. It is an underrated entry point into medical sales with strong clinical overlap for nurses, medical technologists, and lab backgrounds. Joe has placed reps at Abbott, Roche, Quest, and LabCorp-affiliated roles.

Resume Optimization and ATS Strategy

Every RepPath member gets a full resume rewrite. Joe does not just reformat bullets. He rebuilds the resume around the specific specialty, company, and geography you are targeting. He uses ATS-safe structure, strong quantified accomplishments, and the keyword coverage hiring managers filter on. Resumes that come out of RepPath pass ATS and earn a read from a human in the first 7 seconds.

Interview Preparation

Joe runs mock interviews with members at every stage: phone screen, hiring manager, regional manager, panel, and ride-along. He drills the STAR format, behavioral questions, role-play scenarios, objection handling, and closing. Every final round is prepared for in advance. No member walks into a panel without Joe having drilled it with them first.

30-60-90 Day Plans

Final-round interviews almost always require a 30-60-90 day plan. Joe reviews and customizes every plan before a member presents it. The plan names specific accounts, specific products, specific metrics. No generic templates. It is one of the highest-impact preparation steps in the program.

Why Candidates Nationwide Choose Joe

RepPath serves candidates across every state in the US. Medical sales is a national industry. Territory interviews happen in Boston, Charlotte, Dallas, Los Angeles, Denver, Miami, Chicago, New York, Seattle, Atlanta, Phoenix, Houston, Minneapolis, Philadelphia, San Francisco, and every secondary metro where a device or pharma company has a footprint. Joe coaches members from every region. The curriculum is identical. The 1-on-1 coaching is scheduled around your zone. The industry knowledge applies regardless of where you are interviewing.

What makes Joe different from other medical sales coaches is not the curriculum. It is the guarantee. Joe does not stop coaching you when a program window closes. He stays on your side until you have a signed offer. If your first 10 interviews do not produce an offer, Joe re-strategizes with you and you keep going. The RepPath Coaching Experience

When you join RepPath Academy, the first call with Joe is a diagnostic. He asks about your background, what specialties you are open to, your geography, your timeline, and what has blocked you so far. He looks at your current resume and tells you exactly what is wrong with it. He looks at your LinkedIn and tells you exactly what recruiters see when they search your profile.

From there, Joe builds a plan. Resume rewrite in week one. LinkedIn rebuild in week one. Target list of 25 to 40 companies and hiring managers drawn up by the end of week two. 15+ training modules to work through on your own time. Twice-weekly live coaching calls on Tuesdays and Thursdays at 3 PM EST. Direct Slack and email access to Joe for every interview you book. Mock interviews scheduled on demand.

The cadence is personal, not templated. If you are moving fast and booking phone screens in week three, Joe drills phone screens. If you are stuck at the resume stage in week six, Joe goes back to the resume. The program meets you where you are and moves at the pace of your interview calendar.

No. Most RepPath members are career switchers. Common backgrounds include nursing, physical therapy, athletic training, pharmacy, college athletes, military veterans, teachers, and B2B sellers from other industries. Joe has placed reps from every background.

Do I need to live near Joe?

No. RepPath is 100% remote. Coaching happens on Zoom. Live community calls run Tuesdays and Thursdays at 3 PM EST. Members join from every state.

How long does it take to land a job?

Average time from enrollment to signed offer is 9 to 10 weeks. Some members land offers in 5 to 6 weeks. Some take longer depending on geography, target specialty, and interview activity. Joe keeps working with you until you are placed.

Joe works with every member until they land a medical sales job. There is no time limit and no "you were not ready" abandonment point. The full guarantee is documented at the placement guarantee page.

Is this a group program or 1-on-1?

Both. The curriculum is self-paced. Community calls are group. Resume reviews, mock interviews, and strategy sessions are 1-on-1 with Joe. Members get the benefits of a community plus the individual attention of a 1-on-1 coach.

Can Joe help if I am already a pharma rep trying to move into devices?

Yes. Pharma-to-device transitions are one of the most common profiles Joe coaches. He knows the resume positioning and interview framing that lets pharma reps get taken seriously by device hiring managers.

What about ortho specifically?

Orthopedic device sales is the highest-paid and most demanding specialty Joe coaches into. See the orthopedic device sales guide for a full breakdown of the sub-specialties, top companies, and what the interview process looks like.

What if I have tried other medical sales programs and they did not work?

Many RepPath members come to Joe after Medical Sales College, Breaking Into Device, or other coaching programs did not place them. See RepPath vs Medical Sales College for a direct comparison.

Serving Candidates Nationwide

RepPath works with members from every US state and every major metro. Medical device and pharma companies recruit nationally. The RepPath community includes members in Boston, New York, Philadelphia, Washington DC, Atlanta, Charlotte, Raleigh-Durham, Nashville, Miami, Tampa, Orlando, Chicago, Minneapolis, Detroit, Cleveland, Columbus, Indianapolis, St. Louis, Kansas City, Dallas, Houston, Austin, San Antonio, Denver, Phoenix, Salt Lake City, Las Vegas, Los Angeles, San Diego, San Francisco, Seattle, Portland, and every mid-size metro in between.

If you are in a secondary or tertiary market, your geography is an advantage. Territory openings in smaller metros are less competitive, and candidates who know the local hospital systems have a built-in edge. Joe coaches you on how to use that.

About Founder Joe Licata

My journey into the medical industry began as a teenager volunteering at Saint James hospital in Newark NJ. The surgeons allowed me to observe procedures so I could obtain hands-on experience and I was hooked right away! Working in the operating room allowed me to learn from doctors, nurses, staff, and sales reps. The surgeons and staff were highly skilled professionals and what amazed me the most was how these young sales reps were directing and guiding surgeons twice their age. Often teaching them to use their company’s instrumentation and leading the procedures. Right away, I knew this was the field for me!

I spent the next few summers working as a volunteer in the hospital until I graduated from Villanova University with a Bachelor’s in Biology. My medical sales career has spanned over 20 years with positions in pharmaceutical, medical device, capital equipment, and diagnostics. I’ve held a variety of roles within the industry from sales to management to eventually owning my own business.

Throughout the years, my experience has taught me the formula for a successful career resulting in the formation of RepPath. Now I am servicing clients from around the country who have a passion for evolving or beginning their medical sales career. Sometimes a small amount of the right guidance can make that passion a reality.
